What is h street playhouse?

H Street Playhouse was a performing arts center in the H Street corridor of Northeast Washington, D.C. It was founded in 2002 by Adele Robey and Bruce Robey, who was previously the Director of the National Endowment for the Arts. The theater was housed in a former disco nightclub and had a seating capacity of 125.

Over the years, H Street Playhouse presented a wide range of plays, musicals, dance performances, and other cultural events. It was known for showcasing emerging artists and experimental works, as well as for its commitment to promoting social justice and equity in the arts. The theater also offered educational programs for youth and hosted community events.

Unfortunately, H Street Playhouse permanently closed its doors in 2016 due to financial difficulties. However, its legacy lives on in the H Street community and in the hearts of those who were impacted by its performances and mission.
